Meet one of the real characters from
Civil War Medicine: The Documentary Series
William C. White served as a private in the 69th Pennsylvania Regiment of the Union Army from 1861 to 1864. He survived numerous battles, including Fredericksburg, Antietam and Gettysburg. More than 60 handwritten letters to his parents are preserved in the collection. Typewritten transcripts by an unknown scribe are included. Through the generosity of PAHRC, we present a selection.
These original documents have faded and discolored with time. For ease in reading, the images on this website have been enhanced for higher contrast.
